- Antique Victorian shirt waist/blouse
- 100% Cotton batiste, semi-sheer in winter white featuring beautiful floral botanical embroidery, lace trim, and pin tuck details
- Classic high lace trim collar, common for the Victorian era and large, poet style sleeves with lace and embroidered folded cuffs, with 2 metal snaps at each wrist (newer additions by appearance)
- Hook and eye closure fastens the back from the neck to the waist
- The fit is billowy and loose at the chest/bust, and longer in the front than the back, which is typical of the style at that time
- Originally, there would have been a fitted waistband gathering the fabric at the natural waistline, which has since been removed (a small remnant remains at the back). Tiny thread pinholes where the stitches would have been can be seen. It now flows out, loose and unrestricted. (A bonus in my opinion! :))
- Size Medium, or smaller, depending on desired fit. Modelled on a Medium.
- Measurements (taken flat):
- Shoulders: 17"
- Neck: 11" around
- Bust/Chest: 44"
- 46"
- Arm length: 23"
- Wrist (with buttons done up): 6" around
- Length in front: 20"
- Length in back: 17"
- In very good vintage condition. As noted, the waistline has been removed, and metal snaps added at wrist, so it's not in its original condition. Tiny hole repairs have been made at the back of the high collar (barely noticeable due to location and white embroidery around it). A couple of pinhead sized holes remain at the upper back/neck, and some yellow staining at the back of the neck due to a rusted hook closure that bled into the fabric. Some extra TLC could potentially remove the stain. Otherwise, in beautiful condition, especially for its exceptional age!
- Not gonna lie, this piece is very hard not to keep for myself! Lol! It's nearly 130 years old!!! From the Victorian era with completely intact antique lace and embroidery. Crispy white and stunning! I see the missing waistline as an upgrade in some ways because of added comfort, it fits more sizes, and is more easily wearable as a cropped blouse in these contemporary times. The sleeves and cuffs are to die for! Poetic, romantic, pirate-y, cottage core, victorian cosplay, witchy, Anne of Green Gables, pick your flavour! Light and cool for summer, or ghostly and romantic for haunting the hallways and woods all autumn and winter long!
