- Vintage (Soon to be Antique) 1930's heirloom Slavic embroidered dress
- Hand made in Ukraine with light homespun cotton, hand and machine stitched and hand embroidered. One of a kind!
- The Slavic folk art of embroidery carries many symbols and meaningful codes from the ancient pagan ancestry of the Slavic peoples, long before Christianity. Many of which survived religious conversion and continue to be used today. The embroidery colour palette of pinks, purples, blues and greens with hand embroidered flowers and strawberries is very rare and exceptional! Flowers typically represent love, beauty and often motherhood. Leaves and herbal motifs symbolize purity and prosperity, and berries (in this unique case strawberries) represent family happiness and children. The lilac coloured x's at the neckline represent protection.
- This dress features incredible gathering and hand stitching details at neckline, wrist cuffs and on each arm
- Cut in the traditional loose and wide tunic style with deep neckline and large billowing sleeves. Would traditionally be warn with a skirt over top, but is often worn casually belted or loose as a dress or night shirt in modern times.
- Size Small-3XLarge depending on desired fit

- Shoulder to pit: 12"

- waist is 60" around
- hip is 60" around

- In very good vintage/antique condition. The homespun cotton shows the imperfections of being handmade. By heirloom standards, this adds to the value and specialness of the piece. This piece shows some signs of its age and use, with well scrubbed lightly visible discolouration/stains, and a few scattered small brown spots on the back and upper neckline hiding in the creases, and a small repaired hole at the base of the neckline. All can be seen upon close inspection, but not readily visible (shown in photos). As you can see in the un-edited photos, it still presents beautifully and is strong, clean, and wearable for many years to come. Selling AS IS, and priced to reflect imperfections.
- A gorgeous piece of wearable folk art, all the way from Eastern Europe. A wonderful heirloom piece, ready to wear, keep well and pass down through the ages. A true one of a kind, handmade treasure from nearly a century ago!
